The Borgo Selene wines are made and blended by acclaimed winemaker and consultant Alberto Antonini, at the Curatolo Arini family winery. ‘Borgo Selene’ takes its name from the Greek goddess of the moon, referencing the influence that the Greeks, who first brought vines to Sicily, have had on the Mediterranean’s largest island.
The white blends Catarratto with Inzolia, creating a lifted, fresh and generous expression. Meanwhile, the red, made from Nero d‘Avola and Nerello Mascalese, offers surprising depth for this price.
This wine is made from grapes grown in the hills of the Trapani province in Western Sicily. Soils here are calcareous and of medium consistency, and the vines are trained using vertical shoot positioning with spurred pruning.
The 2025 vintage in Sicily consisted of favourable weather conditions. A rainy winter and mild spring replenished essential water reserves in the soil, which helped the vines manage the hot summer months without severe water stress. While some heat spikes occurred in July, the overall season was more stable than recent years, with good diurnal temperature variations in late August and September that aided in developing complex aromas and balanced acidity in the grapes.
The grapes were fermented in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures to retain vibrant, primary fruit aromas. The wine then spent roughly two months on its lees before bottling, lending freshness and texture.
This wine has a fresh, vivacious nose that displays aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, with hints of Mediterranean flowers. It is crisp and refreshing on the palate with a lifted acidity that lingers on the dry finish.
