The Borgo Selene wines are made and blended by acclaimed winemaker and consultant Alberto Antonini, at the Curatolo Arini family winery. ‘Borgo Selene’ takes its name from the Greek goddess of the moon, referencing the influence that the Greeks, who first brought vines to Sicily, have had on the Mediterranean’s largest island.

The white blends Catarratto with Inzolia, creating a lifted, fresh and generous expression. Meanwhile, the red, made from Nero d‘Avola and Nerello Mascalese, offers surprising depth for this price.

This wine is produced from selected grapes grown in two different vineyards: one near Marsala and one in the centre of Sicily.

The 2024 vintage in Sicily was defined by extreme drought, exceptionally high temperatures well above seasonal averages, and minimal rainfall, which placed vines under severe water stress. These conditions accelerated the growing cycle, with budding occurring around 15 days earlier than usual. Despite the challenges, the vintage is expected to be exceptional in quality, with grapes showing remarkable concentration and health.

Maceration and fermentation took place in 500 litre temperature controlled stainless-steel vats. The must was macerated on the skins over a period of four to five days at a controlled temperature. The wine then remained on its lees for a month before bottling.

This blend of Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese is ruby red in colour, with aromas of red berries and Mediterranean flowers. The palate is round and smooth, with soft tannins and spicy cherry notes on the finish.
