2022 Sangiovese di S. Lucia, Castello dei Rampolla, IGT Toscana, Italy

The 2022 Sangiovese di S. Lucia is done entirely in 18L cocciopesto amphora with no sulfur added. In this vintage, the Sangiovese is quite intense and deep, a reflection of the warm year. As always, the style is a bit on the eccentric side, but there are no awkward notes. If anything, I am quite surprised by the wine's tannic heft. This is a terrific edition of this cuvée—the aromatics alone are beguiling.
