tienne Sauzet’s La Tufera is one of the best-kept secrets of white Burgundy as the blend comes from declassified Puligny-Montrachet vines.

Established in 1920, Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of the Cote de Beaune’s most prestigious producers, with their top wines fetching over £100 a bottle. La Tufera is a great opportunity to taste the refined brilliance of the Domaine without breaking the bank. The grapes used for La Tufera come from the renowned vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet and are aged for 12 months in French oak barrels of around three years old. After a further six months in stainless steel the wine is bottled.

It is aromatic with aromas of wildflowers with a touch of citrus and creamy elegance. More time in the glass produces flavours of stone fruit and restrained power. Steely and poised on the palate, this gains more weight as time goes on. This superb wine for the money shows a class way beyond its ‘Bourgogne Blanc’ AOC classification.

No hurry to drink this as it will continue to improve for many years.
